Increasing appetite for meat and population growth in developing countries mean that global meat consumption is expected to increase nearly 73% by mid-century. In order to meet such demand, food production must double. And since we don’t have another planet, we need to have another plan.
In comparison to traditional animal agriculture, clean meat production requires 99% less land and 96% less freshwater and emits over 95% less greenhouse gases. Cultivating meat is faster and more effective than producing meat in a traditional way. Besides, growing cells in a controlled laboratory environment eliminates or reduces the human health hazards associated with intensive livestock farming, such as foodborne illness, antibiotic resistance and zoonotic illnesses.
